Our Commitment to Independence
Zero Conflicts of Interest
We purchase every bottle we review with our own money. We do not accept free samples, sponsored bottles, or "review units" from distilleries, distributors, or retailers. Every bourbon on this site was bought by our reviewers.
Neat Pour is an independent bourbon review platform run by enthusiasts, for enthusiasts. We have no financial relationships with any bourbon brands, distilleries, distributors, retailers, or industry organizations.
Review Process & Methodology
How We Select Bourbons to Review
We choose bourbons based on:
- Personal interest and curiosity
- Reader requests and suggestions
- New releases and notable offerings
Our Tasting & Rating Process
Each bourbon is evaluated through a structured process:
- Initial Tasting: Neat in a Glencairn glass at room temperature
- Multiple Sessions: Reviewed over 2-3 separate occasions to ensure consistency
- Note Taking: Detailed notes on appearance, nose, palate, finish, and overall impression
- Context Consideration: Evaluated within its price range and category
- Value Assessment: Quality relative to price paid
Rating Scale (1-10)
- 9.0-10.0: Exceptional - Among the best available
- 8.0-8.9: Excellent - Highly recommended
- 7.0-7.9: Very Good - Worth purchasing
- 6.0-6.9: Good - Solid choice with some flaws
- 5.0-5.9: Average - Decent but unremarkable
- 4.0-4.9: Below Average - Not recommended
- 1.0-3.9: Poor - Significant issues
Note: Ratings consider quality relative to price. An 8.5 $35 bourbon is rated differently than an 8.5 $100 bourbon.
